Back home/Save Money/Toy multibuy quick check

Is that toy multibuy actually a good deal?

Save Money Quick check

Three for £20 sounds good. Sometimes it is. Sometimes it just makes you buy a third toy.

Quick check: Add up the normal prices of the exact toys you actually want first.

Check individual prices

A round multibuy price can look better than it really is. Before you pick anything up, add up the normal shelf prices of the exact toys you actually want. If two toys you would have bought anyway already cost more than the multibuy total, it is a genuine saving. If they cost less, you are paying extra for the privilege of a third item.

Only count toys you need

The offer is designed to get a third toy into your basket. If that third item exists only to unlock the deal, it may not be saving you anything at all. A quick test: if this toy were full price on its own, would you still buy it today? If not, leave it on the shelf.

Check another retailer

Search the exact product before buying, ideally by model name. Supermarkets, discount stores and online marketplaces often sell the same toy at very different prices, and a plain price cut elsewhere can beat a multibuy.

The quick maths

Question If the answer is yes
Do two of the toys I actually want cost more than the multibuy price on their own? Good deal. Buy it
Am I adding a third toy just to hit the offer? Probably not a saving
Is the same toy cheaper somewhere else, even at full price? Skip the multibuy

Where this came from

This page started life as a heads-up about B&M’s 3 for £20 toy sale in December 2024, which was a good way to tick several names off a Christmas list in one trip. That offer has ended, but the same kind of multibuy comes around most years, so we have turned the post into a quick check you can use on any of them.

Frequently asked questions

Is the B&M 3 for £20 toy sale still on?

The offer we originally wrote about ran in December 2024 and has ended. B&M and other retailers run similar multibuys most Christmases, so the checks on this page are written to work for whichever offer is in front of you. Last checked 5 September 2026.

How do I know the normal price of a toy?

Search the exact product name and, if it has one, the model number. Compare the shelf price at the retailer with at least one other shop before you count anything as a saving.

Is a multibuy ever worth it for just two toys?

Sometimes, if two of the toys together already cost more than the multibuy price. If you need a third item to make the maths work, the deal is doing its job on you rather than for you.
